At home newborn sessions, or lifestyle sessions, have become one of my favorite types of photoshoots. The authenticity, the comfort of the home setting, the intimacy– all so different than having a newborn session in a studio.
Home newborn sessions offer parents the ease of having all the essentials close at hand. In addition, taking these baby photos at home allows your dwelling to be part of your family story. We should all have photos of the home we brought baby into.
As you can see in the portrait session, Baby Isla is about 3 months-old. Can you only do photos of a newborn under 10 days? No way. My priority is always having Mom feel her best and be ready to be part of the portrait session. Often times the first 10 days are a challenge and the last thing we are thinking of is being in front of a camera. I encourage my clients to book a portrait session with me when they feel the time is right. As we know babies just get cuter with age as you can see with these beautiful chubby cheeks and gummy grins.
With most clients, I begin with their maternity session. I then follow them through the early growing years as a family. Most families will move a few times and to document the house where they brought home their infant is a beautiful memory. Whenever I think of my childhood home a flood of emotions come up. A home is where we build bonds and grow as a family. It is quite a special place to document for ourselves and our children.
As you see in these pictures, I always hunt for the best light in the home. I love simple backgrounds where the I can celebrate the connection between people. We might also have fun by playing I am the master bedroom, visiting the nursery or snuggling with a dog or cat. Let’s keep it real and capture your personalities.
If you are currently pregnant and are searching for a maternity photographer in the San Francisco Bay Area, the East Bay, Oakland Berkeley San Francisco, Palo Alto or even Santa Cruz I would love to chat with you. Congratulations I can’t wait to hear more!
