Baker Beach Maternity Photo Session

Do you dream of a maternity beach photo session in the San Francisco Bay Area? I don’t blame you! Beaches in Northern California offer rugged coastal views and an all-around California vibe. Even winter beach maternity photos, like these, are a great experience. In addition,  we have so many to choose from! From an easy afternoon at Alameda Beach, Pacifica, Half Moon Bay, or Marin, it’s the perfect location for maternity photos.

Baker Beach Maternity Session

Nova and Paul wanted epic views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the striking cliffs of the Marin Headlands to be part of their maternity photoshoot. I suggested we have the portraits taken at Baker Beach. We got lucky with a colorful sunset and a fairly empty stretch of sand.

I love that Nova chose to wear a flowy red maternity dress. It showed off her bump perfectly and of course was the perfect compliment to the red of the Golden Gate.

I get a lot of questions about maternity photos, so I thought I’d answer a few.

What month should I do maternity photos?

As a general rule of thumb, maternity portrait sessions are usually done between 28 and 36 weeks (or seventh or eight months of pregnancy). The belly has a nice round shape during this time frame and the expectant mom still feels comfortable enough for a portrait session

What should I wear for a maternity photo shoot?

1.A Maxi Dress is the perfect thing to wear for maternity shoots. Maxi dresses are comfortable and flattering.

2. Solid colors generally photograph well. I love white, cream and beige. I like to keep it simple.

3. Tight clothing looks great in maternity shots, we want the focus to be on your adorable baby bump!

4. Consider wearing a belt to help define your baby bump. Wear just above your belly to create a beautiful waistline.

5. Lean towards classic clothing and away from the current trends. I want your maternity session portraits to be a reflection on your pregnancy and your growing family. We don’t want the clothes to be a distraction in 20 years.
