Unique Bay Area Locations for Maternity Photos

Looking for unique Bay Area locations for maternity photos? Because this is a question I always discuss in my consultations with couples, I thought I’d put together a blog to show some of the variety to choose from. Whether you are looking for beach maternity pictures, in the redwoods or portraits on the streets of San Francisco, the Bay Area has something for everything. 

Are you still wondering if maternity photos are important? I say they are. This usually marks a huge milestone in the relationship with your partner and it’s something to celebrate. Already have a child? These offer special moments for family portraits and a way to make your kid feel special before baby arrives. 

So, before your life takes a dramatic turn with a newborn, take time to stop and document this journey. I guarantee that they will be cherished for a lifetime and by generations to come. Through your maternity photos, you can show how incredible your body is and what it is capable of. More importantly, these photos capture such a special moment in your life, allowing you to look back and enjoy them in the future. 

Marin Headlands

The Marin Headlands has got to be one of my most favorite locations for all photography sessions. The gorgeous valley displays the finest of Northern California scenery. In addition, the rugged and wild Rodeo Beach is just there, which is a great way to add variety to the pictures.

Oakland

Want an urban and natural setting? I loved photographing this couple where they had their first date, in downtown Oakland near the historic Fox Theater. It’s not a stereotypical spot for maternity photos, so it made it all the more special. We later made our way to Joaquin Miller Park to capture the sun peeking through the towering trees. 

San Francisco

This was a fun maternity photo session because we used the couples’ San Francisco neighborhood as the backdrop for their photos. They live across from a beautiful park and close to a gardening co-op that they frequent. Later, we used a great view of downtown San Francisco for some timeless and iconic photos of their lives together before the baby’s arrival.

Lands End

Lands End is a beautiful trail in San Francisco with views of the Pacific and lined with dramatic cypress trees. It is perfectly located near historic Sutro Baths and the Legion of Honor Museum. This is a wonderful place to capture the natural beauty and beautiful sunsets.

Redwood Regional Park

Thinking you would love maternity pictures in natural splendor of trees and sky? Forget Muir Woods and head over to the quiet redwoods in Redwood Regional Park in the Oakland hills. The trails are quiet and it’s a great opportunity to wear a beautiful flowy dress. There are opportunities to find open meadows as well as redwood groves for unique and artistic maternity photos.

Half Moon Bay

Who can resist the call of Half Moon Bay? The way the mountains meet the sea is breathtaking. You can explore magical cypress groves, fields of wildflowers, and of course the beach for gorgeous maternity photos.

Baker Beach

Love the beach, views of the Golden Gate Bridge, and hills of Marin? These Bay Area locations for maternity photos are varied and inspired. Baker Beach might be right for you. Baker Beach is a public beach on the peninsula of San Francisco, California, U.S. The beach lies on the shore of the Pacific Ocean in the northwest of the city. It is roughly a 0.5 mi (800 m) long, beginning just south of Golden Gate Point (where the Golden Gate Bridge connects with the peninsula), extending southward toward the Seacliff peninsula, the Palace of the Legion of Honor and the Sutro Baths.
