Nightingale Portraits Blog: Walnut Creek Family Photographer bio picture
  • WELCOME!

Hi, I'm Christina Hernandez, owner of Nightingale Photography. Welcome to my new blog, celebrating candid family portraiture.

A family portrait session is an incredible gift you can give your family. The session itself is a memorable event, whether it be at your home, a favorite park or the beach. My family sessions are relaxed and fun, with the emphasis on genuine and authentic. Capturing the candid exuberance of childhood and family is my passion. The heirloom portraits that will hang in your home will bring you and your family joy each day and remind you of what's truly important in life. In addition, these photographs will be cherished by your children and family members for decades to come. We can't stop the hands of time, but beautiful photography gets pretty close.

I am a Bay Area native and live in the Oakland hills with my husband of 20 years, Richard, our spunky teenager, Sophia, and of course, our dogs, Roomba and Vincent. Having worked for 15 years as a staff photojournalist at the San Francisco Examiner and Chronicle, I am lucky to be able to anticipate unique moments and capture them for my clients. I believe photography is best experienced on the walls of your home and in heirloom albums, always accessible to view. Looking for my wedding and engagement photography? You can still find it here: nightingalephotosblog.com and nightingalephotos.com. I so look forward to telling your family's story! ~Christina

Palo Alto Portraits | Stanford University

These portraits in Palo Alto feature a beautiful family with the most beautiful girls in the world. I was Carrie and Jeff’s wedding photographer, so it’s incredibly touching to now photograph them with their precious daughters. Sometimes I find it hard for kids to loosen-up, but Lila and Eva used their inner divas to teach me a thing or two! I couldn’t keep up with their leaps and skips. Their beautiful hair flew in the air, and their smiles were radiant. We chose to photograph the session at the Stanford University campus. The architecture is world-class and it’s a special place because Jeff attended medical school there. With all my family photography sessions, I photograph the kids together, with each parent, each alone and together as a family. Because children change so quickly, I’m just tickled that they made the time to make these portraits happen.

Oakland Family Portrait Session-Joyner Family

This Oakland family portrait session highlighted the Joyner family amidst beautiful East Bay architecture and colorful trees. I always love photographing families year after year so I can see how the kids change. Wow, when the Joyner Family met with me I truly saw that the kids had become young adults. What a beautiful family! It’s heart-warming to see how they can still play together, have fun and maintain a care-free vibe. Deidre is a wonderful real estate leader in the East Bay and has always supported my photography and art. Thanks, Deidre! Check out her wonderful blog here.

Rockridge Portrait Session | Shelley

I have been so excited to post these images from this Rockridge portrait session. My wonderful friend Shelley, recently moved into an adorable Rockridge cottage and wanted to celebrate this transition with beautiful, professional portraits. This marks a turning point in her life, as she recently downsized and now lives in a neighborhood with wonderful walkability and access to great shopping and restaurants. These ideas helped us form the concept for this casual and whimsical portrait session in her new neighborhood. We did a few wardrobe changes and found some fun accessories that told the story of her new life. I am so excited that we got to work together and I really feel that these portraits celebrate Shelly’s zest for life. Thank you to the talented make-up artist, nhttp://marialeemakeup.com/Maria Lee, and the exquisite styling by the one and only Shelley Hansen

Point Richmond Newborn Session | Isaaca

Baby Isaaca’s newborn session took place at her home in Pt. Richmond. Mom, June and Dad, Howard, wanted an organic gallery of photos that were natural and candid. We worked in a few rooms of their darling California bungalow, which offered beautiful light and character. This precious baby girl is the first born to her parents and the first grandchild in the family! So, of course, Grandma was there, and I was thrilled to photograph her with her granddaughter. Isaaca was wrapped in a fragile, lime green handmade blanket made by Grandma, even the lace was created from scratch. Mom and Dad couldn’t get enough of this baby girl. Her very presence brought such joy to the family. Congratulations to the entire family on their adorable daughter! The world is a better place because of her.
