Nightingale Portraits Blog: Walnut Creek Family Photographer bio picture

Hi, I'm Christina Hernandez, owner of Nightingale Photography. Welcome to my new blog, celebrating candid family portraiture.

A family portrait session is an incredible gift you can give your family. The session itself is a memorable event, whether it be at your home, a favorite park or the beach. My family sessions are relaxed and fun, with the emphasis on genuine and authentic. Capturing the candid exuberance of childhood and family is my passion. The heirloom portraits that will hang in your home will bring you and your family joy each day and remind you of what's truly important in life. In addition, these photographs will be cherished by your children and family members for decades to come. We can't stop the hands of time, but beautiful photography gets pretty close.

I am a Bay Area native and live in the Oakland hills with my husband of 20 years, Richard, our spunky teenager, Sophia, and of course, our dogs, Roomba and Vincent. Having worked for 15 years as a staff photojournalist at the San Francisco Examiner and Chronicle, I am lucky to be able to anticipate unique moments and capture them for my clients. I believe photography is best experienced on the walls of your home and in heirloom albums, always accessible to view. Looking for my wedding and engagement photography? You can still find it here: nightingalephotosblog.com and nightingalephotos.com. I so look forward to telling your family's story! ~Christina

Walnut Creek Family Portrait Session

Two years ago I photographed Leticia and Mahesh’s beautiful San Francisco City Hall Wedding. They now have a wonderful addition to the family, Baby Amadeo! What fun it is for me to follow couples through so many milestones in their lives. Amadeo’s big brown eyes and charming smile are simply irrisistible. Mom and Dad are glowing and are enjoying this time as a new family. Our Walnut Creek family portrait session took place Mt. Diablo, in Walnut Creek, was casual and fun. I’m so glad we made some priceless images together.Walnut Creek Family PortraitsWalnut Creek Family PortraitsWalnut Creek Family PortraitsWalnut Creek Family PortraitsWalnut Creek Family Portraits

East Bay Family Portrait Session

An East Bay family portrait session is always a wonderful occasion to make memories. The regional parks in Oakland, Berkeley and Walnut Creek have wonderfully diverse landscapes, perfect for kids to explore. I love the quite hugs and moments we captured between parents and kids. Thank you to Joy, Ken and the kids for all the fun!East Bay Family PortraitsEast Bay Family PortraitsEast Bay Family PortraitsEast Bay Family PortraitsEast Bay Family PortraitsEast Bay Family PortraitsEast Bay Family PortraitsEast Bay Family Portraits

San Jose Maternity Session-Valerie and John

Congratulations to Valerie and John! They are expecting a beautiful baby, sure to arrive very soon. Valerie looked radiant in her red sundress. She’s just glowing! We chose a wonderful natural environment for their San Jose maternity session. I find the golden hills of California so inspiring. The landscape is both rugged and beautiful. Valerie and John’s child will sure appreciate seeing Mom pregnant. Children are just amazed by maternity photographs and often love looking through maternity albums and talking about how they were in the belly. So cute! For the nursery, I always encourage having a wall display, including an image form the maternity session. If they aren’t on the wall how can we enjoy them? Photographs are best enjoyed hanging on walls, to appreciate each day. Your family can create its very own private art collection of memories.San-Jose-Maternity-SessionSan-Jose-Maternity-SessionSan-Jose-Maternity-SessionSan-Jose-Maternity-SessionSan-Jose-Maternity-SessionSan-Jose-Maternity-SessionSan-Jose-Maternity-SessionSan Jose maternity session

Maternity Session in Walnut Creek

This maternity session in Walnut Creek celebrated Avi and Prasad’s joyful gift of their first baby on the way. The couple really wanted a natural photo shoot, so we chose the rolling hills of Walnut Creek. I love Avi’s beautiful white dress, a timeless and elegant choice. Prasad couldn’t be more mad for his wife and eager to meet his first child.

Why I believe that Maternity Sessions are important | As you prepare for a baby you float through 9 months of expecting life to change without knowing exactly HOW it’s going to change.  Especially if the baby is your first. It’s a special time of life, although, it is often overlooked in it’s importance to photograph. There are just too many easy excuses to skip a maternity session with growing waist lines and lists of other things to purchase. However, with each of my newborn and birth clients I highly recommend a mini maternity session. The biggest reason being the importance of this time that will no longer exist when baby gets here. If the baby is your first, the last weeks/months of your pregnancy mark the last that you and your partner will be on your own, the days of just the two of you are numbered and believe it or not you are about to change in ways that aren’t even comprehensible. If it’s a sibling, it marks the last time you’ll be just the 3, 4 or 5 of you for the rest of your lives. It’s a special time, it is a time when a few images captured of your life before baby will be treasured as much as those first images of their sweet wrinkled feet and sleepy eye lashes.
