Nightingale Portraits Blog: Walnut Creek Family Photographer bio picture
  • WELCOME!

Hi, I'm Christina Hernandez, owner of Nightingale Photography. Welcome to my new blog, celebrating candid family portraiture.

A family portrait session is an incredible gift you can give your family. The session itself is a memorable event, whether it be at your home, a favorite park or the beach. My family sessions are relaxed and fun, with the emphasis on genuine and authentic. Capturing the candid exuberance of childhood and family is my passion. The heirloom portraits that will hang in your home will bring you and your family joy each day and remind you of what's truly important in life. In addition, these photographs will be cherished by your children and family members for decades to come. We can't stop the hands of time, but beautiful photography gets pretty close.

I am a Bay Area native and live in the Oakland hills with my husband of 20 years, Richard, our spunky teenager, Sophia, and of course, our dogs, Roomba and Vincent. Having worked for 15 years as a staff photojournalist at the San Francisco Examiner and Chronicle, I am lucky to be able to anticipate unique moments and capture them for my clients. I believe photography is best experienced on the walls of your home and in heirloom albums, always accessible to view. Looking for my wedding and engagement photography? You can still find it here: nightingalephotosblog.com and nightingalephotos.com. I so look forward to telling your family's story! ~Christina

Bay Area Family Portrait Session-Addiego Family

This Bay Area family portrait session features the wonderful Addiego Family! I always enjoy making images of families at their homes. The Addiego Family, who I am fortunate to have photographed for over 10 years (including their wedding!) live on a wonderful piece of land in El Sobrante. Their children, Lucy, 6, Hudson, 4, and Tucker, 2, get to play with goats and chickens with acres to run and romp. It is truly an idyllic and picturesque setting. Parents, Erin and Jeremy, own wonderful vintage trucks and even an Airstream trailer, which were wonderful props for the photography session. It was hilarious to edit these images, seeing the kids’ expressions when playing with eachother and all the animals.

It warms my heart to know that these kids will now have lasting memories, through photographs, of their rural California childhood. Life and childhood goes by so quickly, I believe an investment in portraits is priceless. Not only will these images be enjoyed by the family now, and in 20 years, but by future grandchildren, 50 years from now. The power of capturing moments through photography is an investment one should feel good about and be guaranteed to appreciate in emotional value over time.

Marin Newborn Session-Baby Enzo

This Marin newborn session was very special for me because Baby Enzo is the first child of my childhood friend, Steven. He and his lovely wife, Elizabeth, are thrilled to pieces with this bundle of joy. It’s so exciting to witness such close friends become parents. Their town of San Rafael also looks like the perfect town to raise a baby. Congratulations!Marin Newborn Session Marin Newborn Session Marin Newborn Session Marin Newborn Session

Bay Area Family Photographer|Zdon Waller Family

Jennifer and I met in college, many years ago, in the photojournalism department of San Francisco State University. We immediately bonded over our love of documentary photography and the emotional impact of the craft. She went on to land a position as staff photographer at the Times-Picayune in New Orleans. Her impact there was powerful, leaving insightful photo essays of this storied town.

Later, she branched out and started her own successful boutique photography business, Twirl, in New Orleans. If you travel to the Big Easy, you MUST book a session with her, she’s amazing. She’s truly incorporated her documentary and artistic eye in to her portraits and weddings to create timeless images for her clients. I was lucky enough to visit her last month and do a fun family maternity session ,as they are expecting their second child, soon. Her beautiful daughter, Magnolia, was a dream subject, her fabulous dresses against the colorful walls and varied textures of New Orleans was inspiring. Mark is a great guy and is obviously in love with his beautiful women. What a great city to photograph in and I am so excited for this family’s new arrival!

These are so amazing!! Thank you for these memories, I know we will treasure them for years to come, especially when we are knee deep in diapers again. And it’s such a reminder of how important it is to be in the pictures with your kids, I know Magnolia and our yet to be named second baby will love seeing these some day! We are lucky to have such a great friend and photographer to help us capture these memories!!!!!

Newborn Portraits in the Bay Area-Baby Noah

Newborn portraits are always so delicious to make. Why do I always use adjectives that describe food when thinking of babies? Becuase they are so yummy and edible! Ok, back to the point. I met Baby Noah at his home and got to document some very precious moments between he and his wonderful parents. I always photograph in my clients home. It’s much easier for them and I love photographing moments that really take place in the day of a family. Do people have to clean-up before I arrive? Heavens no! You just had a baby. Wrinkled sheets and dogs on the bed are my idea of great pictures. I want the baby one day to grow-up and see where he/she was raised, what the home looked like, all the wonderful details of a couple living with a new baby. As you can see, Noah is adorable. I love newborn quizzacle expressions. Thank you again to Noah’s parents!

Palo Alto Family Portrait Session

Camille and Ryan have been wonderful clients of mine since they were first engaged. Now we get to add on Baby Myles to the sessions! Myles has added so much joy to this family. We’ve done his newborn and 6-month session and now see him through his first birthday. We chose to do this family portrait session in Palo Alto, with its beautiful weather and striking architecture. It’s such a privilege for me to document all this love!
