Nightingale Portraits Blog: Walnut Creek Family Photographer bio picture
  • WELCOME!

Hi, I'm Christina Hernandez, owner of Nightingale Photography. Welcome to my new blog, celebrating candid family portraiture.

A family portrait session is an incredible gift you can give your family. The session itself is a memorable event, whether it be at your home, a favorite park or the beach. My family sessions are relaxed and fun, with the emphasis on genuine and authentic. Capturing the candid exuberance of childhood and family is my passion. The heirloom portraits that will hang in your home will bring you and your family joy each day and remind you of what's truly important in life. In addition, these photographs will be cherished by your children and family members for decades to come. We can't stop the hands of time, but beautiful photography gets pretty close.

I am a Bay Area native and live in the Oakland hills with my husband of 20 years, Richard, our spunky teenager, Sophia, and of course, our dogs, Roomba and Vincent. Having worked for 15 years as a staff photojournalist at the San Francisco Examiner and Chronicle, I am lucky to be able to anticipate unique moments and capture them for my clients. I believe photography is best experienced on the walls of your home and in heirloom albums, always accessible to view. Looking for my wedding and engagement photography? You can still find it here: nightingalephotosblog.com and nightingalephotos.com. I so look forward to telling your family's story! ~Christina

Peninsula Family Photographer | Baby Mabel

As a Peninsula family photographer, it is one of my greatest joys to photograph my brand new clients! What could be more fun than to capture baby leg rolls and toothless grins? This post introduces Baby Mabel to the world. She is a girl who knows what she wants and how to get it. Her doting Father is her biggest fan and I loved being able to photograph how they gazed at each other. Mom and baby look so alike and it was a pleasure capturing intimate family moments like these. Brother Henry is learning to love his little sister, and even let her sit on a chair with him. I know, a sacrifice for sure. After the photo session, my clients and I designed a beautiful heirloom photo album that sits with Henry’s in their Menlo Park living room. Thank you, Hansen Family, for allowing me to make these portraits of your beautiful family!

Bay Area Family Photographer | Father’s Day Session

As a Bay Area family photographer, it’s so rewarding to follow the stages of a family’s life. I was lucky enough to be Chris and Tori’s wedding photographer, 6 years ago, and now I get to photograph them with their children Yay! So much fun for me. Tori asked if I would come to their Orinda home to photograph Chris playing with his kids. She loves how interactive with them and wanted these precious moments to be documented. Oh boy, little Audrey put him to task! She invited him to a tea party, got to put make-up on him and even dress him up. James got to be a big boy and shave with Dad. He couldn’t have had more fun with the shaving cream and seeing in them in the mirror together. These portraits gave the parents great happiness, but can you imagine how valuable they will be in 30 years? These moments are fleeting and magical, and it’s an honor to capture them through candid photography for my wonderful clients.

Father’s Day Portraits and Family Reunions

Father

 Father’s Day Memories

Do your children have an adorable portrait of their Dad playing with them? These special memories will be priceless one day and I want to help you capture them. I love making candid images of Dads having a tea party, playing a superhero or cuddling on a sofa with the family. Treat your whole family to a special session this June or July.

Family Reunions in No. California

Summer family reunions in Northern California are the perfect opportunity for extended family portraits. I visit your location for an hour to make casual, editorial portraits of the whole group together and special images of sibling groupings, grandparents with grandchildren, etc. Please inquire about your date. I offer coverage in the greater Bay Area, Tahoe, Napa, Carmel and beyond…

I look forward to connecting with everyone and happy summer!

Walnut Creek Family Portraits | Julia & Eric

I was lucky enough to photograph Julia and Eric’ss beautiful wedding almost seven years ago in San Francisco and now I get to make their Walnut Creek family portraits! That’s one of the best parts of my jobs: continuing to work with beautiful couples after the wedding when they start a family. Julia and Eric wanted to continue with my candid, relaxed style so we decided to go run around the beautiful hills of Mt. Diablo in Walnut Creek. I suggested Borgess Ranch because the kids could visit the historic ranch and see animals after the session. I love the boys’ bow ties and white shirts. It’s such a timeless look and a wonderful contrast to the rustic environment. I so look forward to many more years of family portraits with this darling couple! Curious to see Julia and Eric’s wedding? Check it out HERE.

Professional Business Portraits | Amy

Amy knew it was time to update her professional business portraits and wanted and editorial style. We wanted to do something different than a standard headshot so we chose two Oakland locations that gave us variety. I adore the outfits Amy chose. The red blazer with dark jeans and heels created a flirty look and her beautiful mid-length coat brought the images such style and power. The green trees behind the trees pop with the red and gave us a natural feel. Great job, Amy! You were a joy to work with.
